John Makate

John is an Associate, holding an LLB from the University of South Africa and is an admitted attorney of the High Court.

He has contributed to landmark cases before the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and various High Courts.

John has also been actively involved in matters at the intersection of public interest, the protection of rights, and press freedom.

John is an emerging specialist in Media Law, Public Law, and Dispute Resolution. He brings to the firm competent, professional, and effective legal services. He has completed advocacy training through the BLA and has developed a reputation for principled and analytical advocacy. John is passionate about the Rule of Law, committed to protecting clients against abuse of court process, and dedicated to shaping a just and democratic society.

Outside of his legal work, John enjoys chess and travelling.
